FREE WORKSHOP ON TRANSFORMING YOUR WEBSITE

The First Steps workshops are part of a popular national initiative aimed at helping businesses to discover the benefits that e-commerce can bring and many local companies have already taken advantage of the free First Steps workshops which are being run in Leicestershire by the Chamber of Commerce.

The workshops touch on different aspects of e-business and the next event, Transforming Your Website on October 12th, has been designed to help local companies to not only assess the current performance of their website but increase the level of businesses generated by it, maximising the value of website investment.

First Steps workshops are all designed to help businesses to embrace and understand the potential and the commercial advantages of the internet and e-commerce.

EURO PREPARATIONS FOR BUSINESS

HM Treasury have prepared a new leaflet “Euro Preparations: What you need to know”

This, as with similar documents, aims to advise on how the UK would make the change from sterling to euro, in the event of a decision to do so. This envisages a minimum 36 month timetable from Government decision to stopping the use of sterling altogether. The content includes checklists, consumer protection codes and a recommendation to businesses to consider building euro compatibility into their investment decisions. EMPLOYER'S FEDERATION GRANT FUNDING

Grants for purchases of normal business improvement resources such as plant and equipment, computer hardware and software or marketing materials are available from the European Regional Development Fund. The Engineering Forum is actively looking to give companies money to help improve their business.

Grants worth up to £4,000 against normal business improvement purchases are on offer. Companies that wish to check if they qualify should visit the Engineering Forum Web site: www.engineeringforum.co.uk , click on “Business Opportunities: Funding & Support report for your company” and answer 4 simple questions. Alternatively call the Lo-call telephone number 0845 1308666 and ask to speak to Karen Hill, Funding Manager.

To qualify for the grants:

• The company must be a Small to Medium sized Enterprise (an SME), as defined by the EU.
• The company must be in one of the designated areas classified as qualifying for Objective 2 funding support.
• The purchased items must be company property and title (i.e. H.P. and leasing agreements are excluded).
• The minimum purchase level reached before grants are paid is £2,000, the maximum £16,000. The rebate level will be 25% of qualifying purchases.

A company can obtain a grant for the following items:

• Plant & shop floor equipment.
• I.T. hardware or software for shop floor or office.
• Marketing materials (brochures, flyers, exhibition stands, websites etc.)

Applying may take up to 10 minutes completing a simple, 2 page form, which can be downloaded from www.engineeringforum.co.uk

Grants are only available until 31st december 2004

SECOND REGIONAL INVESTMENT FORUM

The Vitebsk Oblast Marketing Center would like to invite Leicestershire companies to the Second Regional Investment Forum which will be held on 7 – 8 October 2004 in Vitebsk, Republic of Belarus.

The purpose of the Forum is the attraction of investments into the economy of the Vitebsk Oblast and further expansion and development of small entrepreneurship, primarily of commodity producers. Belarusian and foreign representatives of production, commercial and financial organizations are welcomed for participation in the forum as potential investors. Representatives of Polish, Czech, Latvian, Lithuanian, Estonian business circles are intended to take part in the work of the Forum.

Events of the Forum:
7 October – visit of production SMEs of the Vitebsk Oblast
8 October - participation in the exhibition of investment projects, meetings with managers of enterprises representing these projects, participation in the Conference “Investment Initiatives of the Vitebsk Oblast” and presentation of investment project.
