Leicestershire Chamber of Commerce, in association with The Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills, would like to invite you attend The Skills Pledge – Make The UK A World Leader In Skills By 2020.
This special event, to be held at the Peepul Centre, Leicester on 14th October, gives you an opportunity to hear what making the Skills Pledge can do for your company, with a key note speech from David Lammy,National Minister of State for Skills. As well as hearing first hand about the new and emerging national skills policies you will also hear how these fit with the economic priorities of the East Midlands.

FREE BUSINESS CONFERENCE
The Business Conference for the East Midlands, to be held on 1st October 2008, is the second business conference organised and run by the East Midlands Learning Skills Council (LSC).
The conference is to be held at the East Midlands Conference Centre and last year attracted over 300 delegates. An all-day event this years conference will include 4 keynote speakers and the option to attend 2 of 4 seminars being run on the day.
The keynote speakers are Pete Waterman (Music Mogul), Emma Harrison (Secret Millionaire), Tim Campbell (first winner of The Apprentice) and Matthew Amroliwala (BBC News24 presenter).
The event is aimed at businesses that employ more than 25 employees and who are located in the East Midlands region. It is free to attend, however a £50 charge will be made to delegates who book but do not turn up.

£40,000 BOOST FOR SMES
Small businesses with big ideas to tackle climate change are being urged to compete for awards of up to £40,000 each, as the Shell Springboard programme opens for its fourth year.
With the Government pledging a million new ‘green collar’ jobs over the next two decades, Shell Springboard is urging UK SMEs to capitalise on the growing market opportunity by applying for a financial boost from the programme. James Smith, Chairman of ShellUK, said: "SMEs are a vibrant and creative sector of the economy, so they're ideally placed to be climate change entrepreneurs."
Shell Springboard offers a financial boost for UK businesses with compelling ideas for tackling climate change. These must be ideas which:
- Will lead to greenhouse gas reductions
- Are commercially viable
- Are innovative
Up to six awards of between £20,000 and £40,000 are on offer in each of three UK regions. Last year awards of £40,000 were made to five businesses from across theUK.

CORPORATE RELAY CHALLENGE
Freeth Cartwright Solicitors Leicester office are organising and sponsoring a Corporate Relay Challenge over the half-marathon course as part of the Leicester Marathon 2008 which takes place on Sunday 19th October.
The nominated charities for this event are LOROS, Rainbows and St John's Ambulance, each a worthwhile charity which provides invaluable help and support to the local community.
Freeth Cartwright would like to extend an invitation to you and your organisation to enter a relay team. The entry fee is £100 per team plus any additional donations, with all funds going to charity. The relay teams will comprise a team of 4 runners who will each run a leg of approximately 3.25 miles over the official half marathon course. The relay and the main marathon will start and finish at Victoria Park in Leicester and Freeth Cartwright are organising hospitality and refreshments at the finish. It is hoped that many local companies will be keen to participate and make this a day to remember.

Edward Garnier has been the MP for Harborough since the general election in April 1992. Born in October 1952, he is married to Anna and they have a daughter and two sons. Edward Garnier was educated at Wellington College, Berkshire, Jesus College, Oxford, and the College of Law, London.
Following the 1997 election when the Conservative Party left office William Hague appointed Edward Garnier Shadow Minister, Lord Chancellor's Department, until 1999 when he became Shadow Attorney General. When Iain Duncan Smith became Leader of the Opposition in September 2001 Edward Garnier stepped down from the Conservative front bench.
In 2005 he was appointed Shadow Home Affairs Minister.
In 2007 he was appointed Shadow Minister for Justice.
